I'm also a fan of the BMW pet barrier. I got mine on eBay for a fraction of dealer cost. It was lightly used but in great condition. As you can see in the second picture, I attached a small fan with velcro straps to help keep the pooch cool. It's a $7 battery/AC powered fan from a hardware store. I use it plugged in to the rear cigarette lighter power point with a small inverter. It works well.
I am also a fan of German dogs in German cars. This is my 13 month old Rottweiler.
