BT/Assist TCU module replaced...!
03/2005 - 05/2005 84-10-6-964-114 06/2005 - 08/2005 84-10-6-965-056 09/2005 - ???????? 84-10-6-963-798 I had the -114 in my 5/2005 production X5, but they replaced it with 84-10-6-978-529, which I guess is brand new. Seems to work like a charm overall - except that my v710 phonebook doesn't seem to be loading... after re-paired the phone with the system, the nav screen said "Updating Phonebook", and just hung there for several minutes. Not sure what the problem is, as this always worked fine with the old BT module. Any thoughts? |

Got the phonebook to load (apparently it just takes a LONG time)...
But I did notice a few differences from my old VA/BT/Assist unit - first and foremost is that the voice activation button does not work now!! Did they slip me a unit w/o VA??!

Turns out that the new TCU that BMW had listed as the replacement for my old one did not come equipped with the built-in VA functionality... Fortunately when I pointed out the oversight to my dealer, they addressed it w/ the BMW mother ship and got me a replacement TCU w/ the built in VA.

Assist/Bluetooth Module - what part # did you finally end up with?
I just had my TCU replaced (mine was a 7/04 production car w/nav), had assist only and they put in the combo unit
84-10-6-963-798... I need to have it configured I guess (not sure of the process) to make the bluetooth phone work. Do you know if the module that I have has the VA functionality? If you know the steps that I need to take I would appreciate your advice. Thanks |

I already had BMW Assist and Voice Recog built into the BT module. After replacement, everything still works fine. I had to reprogram the Voice Recog phonebook, but otherwise, no big deal. If your prior BT module was lacking some of these features, you may have just gotten a free upgrade! As far as "configuration" for making BT phone connection, have you tried doing the standard pairing? Remember, your BT Passkey will be different with a new TCU. The dealership should have given you a new Passkey number when you picked up the car.

Yes, as SD said, -798 is the latest module, and it is indeed VA-equipped... that's the one I finally got for my 05/05 as well.
Good deal that you got the -798, b/c that module is quite a bit more $$ than the comparible non-VA equipped TCU... |

Bluetooth and VA working!
Took back to dealer... sure enough I had the wrong code... was as simple as entering in the new code and all worked including the upload of the phonebook. I like it!
