I have done something similar using clear coat mixed with 25-35% black base. You are basically "tinting" the clear with black and spraying it over the chrome emblem/trim. The effect is really cool as it is looks like a darker looking chrome. You can also just paint them black and add "flattening" past to achieve anywhere from full gloss to satin to full flat black. These choices, of course, involve removing and painting, and the skillset to accomplish this. Of course using a quality paint is paramount, no rattle cans (IMO).
Sorry I don't have photos of any of the pieces I have done, just know that was not that tough and the results were worth it.

I'm in process of putting a light smoke on headlight lenses like that, and am considering buying an extra set of emblems and hitting them up like that as well. If I feel frisky enough I'd might even re-do my tail lights like that getting rid of the rattle can tint.

Hey Krunk Man... how many do we have/need as far as the emblems go? (before I try it myself, as I'd prefer the professional product)

Oh well... if it is out of the works, then maybe the thread could be closed. It will be cheap enough to try the cheap alternative anyways. I just had my modded headlight's lenses smoked professionally, and thinking about re-doing my tail lights professionally. Maybe I should bring a few emblem sets with me next time I go to the paint shop.

![]() Oh and it's funny that I just spotted this thread. I just received my shadow emblems in the mail (for my E46) and was gonna put them on this week. Then while driving to work this morning I was wondering if they made them for the X5.

I am getting black Chrome 87 style replica wheels today and I was planning on changing the emblems like 4.4i, X5, Grill to match it to Black Chrome or to black and I just saw this post. I am all in!! Are we still doing it?
