btw, the ball mount is also NLA - so had to snag one NOS off eBay. I'm sure one could find an universal one but another point to consider when trying to get equipped.

Coming from E30s, I thought BMW had great service parts support but pretty disappointed in lack of supply for the hitch kits.

I got the 'official' ball shaft from ECF, I believe, not surprised that the dealers don't have them. The key is getting a 6k lbs. rated shaft, with a 1" hole, that has a 4 in drop and fits the 'short' length in the bmw specs, shown in the drawing in the installation .pdf. As best I recall, its maybe 8", shorter than most.
