Ehh, even with the issues that I'll resolve eventually, I still love driving my X5M...I love sleepers. It's a $100k SAV that I bought for 1/3 the price, I'm maybe $2k into parts and maintenance, so overall I'm still in the black.

If you're not tuned, get a stage 2 with catless downpipes...night and day!

I gutted my stock downpipes, flashed a stage 2, recently installed a custom intake and I might do exhaust before Bimmerfest...no more baby steps :-)

Cold idle, yes. After it's warmed it, the only difference I notice is a little drone when the truck is trying to hold a high gear going uphills. The exhaust system is pieced together from what MSR does on his new custom exhaust system, but since they only make M5/M6 stuff, he told me what they use. F10M5Manual told me it's got zero drone but you can really hear the turbos out back, so I can only hope it'll sound the same on an X5M. Having done a resonator delete and Magnaflow mufflers on my 740iL with drone so terrible that it sounded like a speedboat on the streets, I've learned my lesson and won't keep any system if it drones too much

Are you getting any exhaust smell in the cabin with the gutted cats? Was it hard to do?

I don't notice it, but then again I don't spend a lot of time sitting idle either. Cat removal and installation was kind of a bitch since you're working from the top and bottom, trying to align the bottom of the cats into the gaskets/donuts while still trying to get them to line up behind the turbos with the clamps, but the gutting only took 10 min with a 12" long 1" paddle bit in a drill.
