need input! strange counting down numbers - service reminder

i have a 2007 x3 m sport.

it is in flawless condition and runs/drives perfectly but has recently started doing something strange!

In the service reminder display area of the odometer the display will randomly display the following numbers one at a time in a counting down fashion:
800, 600, 400, 350, 300, 250, 200, 150, 100, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 ,0....

sometimes it will cycle thru the series of numbers once more then go back to the outside temp (what i usually have set to display). this appears to be random - sometimes when i first start it, sometimes when i am in the middle of a drive..

This is not the oil service indicator as i have reset this and have over 14k miles till the next interval

I can find nothing in any forum or the owners manual. i even stopped by my local dealer today and all the service techs looked at me and laughed. They offered to do a scan on the car for $200 - i said no thanks for now..

Has anybody experienced this?? i actually hope it is something obvious that makes me look dumb.... Help me out here fellas..

Nevermind!

I figured it out today... It does this only when I have an active route on the navigation system.

It is counting down the yards to my next turn.
