My $.50 Matte Titanium Shift Knob
My 04 had an all black shifter that I didn't think went that well with all my new matte titanium trim. I have also seen on later years that this center strip is a silver color. Well I am usually the last one do anything ricey and usually first in line to hate on those that do. So by all means hate away
![]() But it came out looking pretty good so I might leave it on there. The color match is nearly perfect. The vinyl even has a little sparkle to it like the trim. Just trim heat cut and tucked it a little and trimmed again. Piece of cake. |

Looks good, can you remove the trim off of the shift knob? Or did you tape up the rest of the area to paint the trim silver?

Looks like he just vinyl wrapped the wood grain part of the shifter... looks good! And easily fully reversible at any time.
Definitely a worthwhile mod for anyone who swapped to piano black trim and still has the wood grain shifter.

You know, I've thought about that kind of mod for a long time. "Maybe I ought to buy the Pearl Chrome shifter like the 07s". The black plastic is kind of cheap looking on the '04s. But two reasons I left mine as just black plastic:
1. My mother's 325i has the Pearl Chrome shifter and I don't like the way it feels. That shiny plastic just doesn't please me. 2. It's easier to mistake the black shifter for a manual gearbox when folks look in the window or get in the car. I've had folks think I was driving a manual gearbox until I mentioned it was an automatic. |
