Rust on bottom door seam. Repair or replace ?

My passenger side door has rusted pretty bad on the bottom door seam. I don't think it's savable. Removed the bottom weather stripping to see the actual rust damage. Funny thing is that 2 doors are missing the weather stripping are perfect, no rust. Rear driver side has started to rust on bottom seam as well but not very much but besides that it's perfect so that door I'm saving. Just wondering if I should try to fix it or get a replacement. Looks like the weather stripping is either blocking the drain holes or holding moisture. What do you guys think?

There's an local X5 that I've been getting parts from. Only problem is that it's black. I doubt I can save the passenger side door. If I can't get a silver door I'm going to get the Black one and have it painted. I'm going to remove the weather stripping on all the doors and apply this to them - System Sampler - Stop Rust Paint - KBS Coatings - RustSeal

There's a video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsk3AQeIZWE that show the application of the product. Looks legit.

Meh - Just pull off the offending seam-sealer that's failed. Wire brush with toothbrush-sized brush and a little phosphoric acid (harborfreight sells "evaporust"). Prime with rust inhibiting primer and paint with touch-up paint.

Sure it's a little ghetto but you won't be able to really tell unless you look closely. Either way it'll be better than where you're at now and it won't rust anymore. I did this last fall on my rear drivers side door.

It didn't rust-through anything did it? Looks surface to me.

Was thinking about that but not sure how long would it hold up. The picture doesn't do a justice. I looks worse in person lol. How is your door holding up ?

If you're so sure that the door is stuffed, why not go through the relatively simple process of sanding and wire brush? It'll give you the proof you need to determine whether it's worth going to the next steps of rust converter and paint process.

Personally, I'm averse to replacing panels unless absolutely necessary. Example - the paint on one vehicle will weather differently to the pain on another vehicle and a replacement door may just look "wrong".

Mine looks the same as when I painted it about 6-7 months ago. No change at all. It should last longer than you'll own the car - years. If it starts to fail - just do it again!

I used ghetto Ace hardware store rust stopping paint after I went through several rounds with the brush and acid. Then just painted with a brush and touch-up paint. Good enough for me. As you can see mine failed on the whole bottom of the door and up the side.

I wouldn't spend a grand getting a new door painted on a 13 year old car for this particular issue - that's me though

Looks pretty damn good. I'm going to hit it with a wire brush and sand it down. I went and tapped the bottom part with a plastic ball peen hammer. Doesn't look like anything is rusted through. So what exactly should I use ?

Rust on bottom door seam. Repair or replace ?

Go to harborfreight and pick-up a little pack of wire-brushes that are toothbrush sized. It'll be a couple bucks at most. Then pick-up some evaporust too. It'll be about $10 for a jug of this size. Pretend you're brushing your teeth with evaporust - but brush the door seam instead. Let it sit for 30 minutes then repeat a few times. Keep it "wet". If you do it enough it'll strip it to bare metal. Just takes a little time. You might want to sand with 80-100 grit paper first to get most of the crusty stuff before you treat it and wire brush it.

The cool thing about evaporust is - it won't harm the paint at all.
