FIXED! See edit 2: Installed 06 4.4 wheels/tires on 04 4.4. Have shaking when braking

Heres an odd one. I bought a set of used wheels and tires that had been on a 2006 4.4i and installed them on my 2004 4.4i. I now have shutter/shake in the steering wheel when I apply the brakes,..feeling much the same as a warped brake rotor. There was no sign of this shake or shutter with my old wheels and tires. I stopped after driving for a bit thinking that one or a few of the bolts might have been grossly over tightened, as I had someone helping me,....but doesn't appear to be the case as I loosened them all and then more gently tightened them, I'm going to torque them all to the suggested 100 Ft Lbs and drive it again.

Has me wondering if the 2006 wheel might require a hub centric ring on my 2004,.....or perhaps they are just not compatible for some reason??

Suggestions?

Edit 6/9/2015 @ 6:00 pm: Adding a pic showing the two wheel styles. the Original wheels, now back on the front eliminate the front end shake that I get with the new to me 5 spoke wheels and tires,....which are shown on the back. Unfortunately, the original (front) tires are worn and cupping and very noisy.

Edit @2 6/14/15; Upallnight's tip that these were actually E70 wheels, and that with a hub centric ring, they could be used on an E53 was spot on. $19 for the rings shipped,.....took all of 15 minutes to get all 4 on. Problem is solved, no shaking when braking and no vibrations
.

Sure they not from an E70? E70 rims will require hub rings.

I would say its a coincidence and you need bushings or you didn't notice them before, or you need to replace or balance the tires.

Hmm, no chance I didn't notice it before,....and the front rotors and pads are new. Its definitely related to these wheels and tires. Out of balance tires don't cause front end shake under braking.

The guy I bought them from said they just came off his 2006 4.4 that he is currently driving.

Think I will check wheel center hole diameters on my old wheels and these wheels tomorrow.

Did they shake for your friend?

What size? Bigger than your previous wheels?

If they are bigger than stock it may have caused enough stress for marginal bushings to give way.

Those happen to be classic front bushing symptoms, any cracks on them?

He said no. Same size wheel and tire as were on the truck. Put them on and the shaking started,...I may put my old wheels/tires back on and see if the shaking stops.

How can I check the front bushings for cracks?

Post a picture of said wheel. Is it OE wheel or aftermarket?

I'd concur with EH6TunerDaniel but suggest that you check:

(a) wheels you bought are indeed the correct ones. if you have the part numbers from the hub and ET number (offset) - its easier for us to help us.

(b) Check that the wheels are mounted on the correct side of the car (as tires are directional) and that the outside of the tire (marked) on the outside. I've seen this happen. Check that the tire pressure is correct and that any wheel weights might not have come off the car in the wheel swap / transport - more likely if they are taped on vs. clip on weights.

(c) We don't know what your standard set was (17, 18 or 19 inch) but I'd agree with EH6TunerDaniel that the most likely issue is that the wider wheels are NOW making you feel the normal wear in your front end. The cause for front end shudder while braking on an E53 is MUCH more likely to be worn tension strut bushings, the replaceable ball joint and/or other front control arm with an integral joint.

As far as I know, these are BMW OE 18s for an X5. Tires are the same size as I took off,...the stock 255 55 18. Im just back from a motorcycle ride, so will be looking at this later today along with why my A/C quit yesterday. Yesterday was two steps back in stead of the expectd one step forward for the X5.
