Looks nice to me. Needs a little paint work for the corners but for $8,900 I wouldn't expect a perfect SAV. If the mechanicals are in good order I say go for it

Is it worth buying?
I'm a E39 guy,these V8 E53 are totally new.
Greg if you are going the route of a V8 X5 2004-2006 I would go after a 4.8is. They are worth more and even more special. In addition any of the problems that you encounter on 4.8is would be similar to the 4.4i since it's the N62 engine.

This was one of the subjects Greg and I discussed this morning, M62 vs N62 and 4.4 vs 4.6/4.8.

Cost was discussed too, when I picked up my spotless 4.4 sport pkg, 1 owner, full service history, never hit 4.4, the same color/year/history/one owner/mileage 4.6is was around $9k more then the 4.4.

I couldn't see paying around 80% more in price, for CLEARLY less then 80% more vehicle. At least not for a DD.

I also spoke to Greg today and shared my thoughts. Bottom line is with these BMWs they require a little more attention and it's nothing to fear for the return in driving enjoyment that they possess. The E53 X5 to this day is still one of my favorite BMW SUVs. The newer ones while they look nice have way more problems particularly as they get over 50K miles. They will require a lot more money to keep them going and endless headaches to the consumer. So to Greg I said if you like what you saw and pleased with the drive then buy it.

It was funny to find out Greg was my neighbor here in Coppell (lived about 3 blocks away from me). Used to see his red M6 on McA Blvd.

THE PLOT THICKENS.....

MAJOR UPDATE!!!!!!!!

My wife and I went for a second test drive today.
She had never driven a BMW X5 before.
I brought my Bone brand creeper and crawled under the X5 today.
I was totally shocked when I found NO DRIPS Anywhere.

The BMW was dirty there but no oil, coolant, hydraulic fluids to be found.
The Wife drove the X5 for a good 30 minutes. Passing slow people, changing lanes,
And generally having fun driving.

Shotgun was my position and I fiddled with every switch I could find.
Except for the few missing pixels on the radio, couldn't find one thing not working!

As before when I drove the car, it was smooth, powerful, with great tires and brakes.

The final item I wanted to check was the 5 minute idle stomp test.
I had my foot on the gas pedal and my hand on my checkbook.
This Silver BMW will soon be in my garage😄😄😄😄.

To my HUGE disappointment, the X5 puffed out a small, yet noticeable puff
of smoke 😂😂😂😂.

The only thing mechanically I could find was the most expensive to fix.
I would have completely given up on this car, but I have another hunch.

For you guys with the 4.4 and the 4.8 motors, here is my Hail Mary last play.

I have read adnausium about the the valve stem seals. It's a VERY BIG job.
The cost and time involved to either have my Indy do it or myself makes this car
financially unfeasable.

And here is my Hail Mary idea.
What if it's not the valve stems?
Did I find my diamond in the rough with just a faulty CCV?

I have owned several other BMW cars with a faulty, clogged, and defective
CCV. My other experience with ONLY the inline 6 motors has always been a bad CCV, IF
engine smoking is present.

Never ever heard of bad valve seals before I came to this website.

What are the chances of a bad CCV and the seals are fine?

if by accelerating and you see a puff of smoke I would say valve seals. at least thats how my chev 1/2 ton was.(I know 2 completely different engines but same idea).
