oil leak from oil pan!!

I changed my oil about 5,000 ago and every once a while I find a little bit of oil on the ground after parking from a drive. I thought it was just the mess I made from the oil change, so I went under the car to clean it up. But after a while I find more oil on the ground, so I got under the car again to check if the drain plug was under tighten and the filter, I have a 4.4, but it wasn't the filter or drain plug. I think its leaking from the pan because there is oil around the bolts that are on the oil pan. I clean it again then after a drive I pull over and look under the car there was oil building up on the oil pan and the reinforcement plate... Have this happen to anyone??? I only have 10,000 miles on my the X5 and I am going to bring it in.. Thanks.

Take it into warranty. The oil leak could be due to slightly loose oil pan bolts or a defective oil pan gasket! It could also be coming from the top of the engine ,like the valve cover gasket, then travelling down to the oil pan!

Do lets us know what the dealer finds out.

your right powers1.. my service advisor called me today and told me that they had to replace the oil pan gasket. Not going to get my car back till tommorow because they do not have the part till tommorow.. My car only has 9,000 miles on it and already a bad oil pan gasket..

Its very unusual but it happens!
Still you are under warranty and the replacement of the gasket is no big deal.
Make sure that they wash all the oil leakage underneath the car............Its warranty.

It's happening to my '05 4.8 at 11,500mi (purchased Apr 2005) . This week I noticed that there is a "significant" amount of oil leaking onto the garage floor in a semi-circular pattern (as it drips down thru the undercarriage plate). Taking it in tomorrow.

Wow.. I purchased my 05 4.4 in April also and it is the same problem Im pretty sure.. They will change the oil pan gasket, put 8 qts new oil, no new filter!, and change the pressure sensor i think.

Seems BMW should be recalling some X5s to change the oil pan gasket.

I hope that's all it is, the oil pan gasket I mean. I really like the vehicle for both looks and performance, and was expecting the 4.8L engine to be a reliable performer. If I wanted to be in the shop all the time, I coulda bought a jag .
