Strange problems after replacing battery...

I was out of town over the long weekend when my alternator died on me! Left the X5 with Calgary BMW there since parts & service were closed. I told them I was visiting the city, hoping they would be able to help as I was stranded. Since everything was closed for the holidays I was hoping they could at least put me in a loaner until my truck was repaired. Only the sales mgr was there - told me he couldn't do anything and suggested I go rent a car! Now how's that for service??

Anyhow they replaced the battery & alternator which cost me over $1000! I had to go pick up the truck 4 days later. I think they fried my NAV computer because now I'm having some strange problems:

NAV screen intermittently comes on and off
MENU options keep appearing and disappearing every time I start the truck
The SIRIUS option has disappeared although I can still listen to it
NAV menu sometimes goes back to the old style orange screen.

And to top it off, the vehicle asks for CODE to start engine! I have never set the code and last night it would not start. I kept putting my key in and out of the ignition and finally it started without the code.

I tried to update the software but nothing happens! Anyone experience anything like this? Problem is how do I prove to the dealer (3hrs away) that they caused it?? They haven't even returned my calls!

A co-worker of mine experienced the same problem. I just asked him how he resolved it (proved it was the stealers fault), and he said the first thing he did was call BMW of North America to file a report. Please note, this was after BMW service refused to do anything to fix the problem. BMW of North America then called the manager at the BMW location where he had the battery changed out. Later that day he received a call from the manager whereby he appologized for any inconvenience and wanted him to return the vehicle ASAP to determine the problem and fix. Please remember, no service dept. rep will ever admit to causing additional problems, they get noted if they do, and too many result in termination as it costs BMW out of pocket expenses. Always go to the top when dealing with this kind of situation as they don't get penalized for it, they also value your business and their own reputation (hopefully). Let us know how it goes, GL.

PS: If that doesn't seem to work shoot me a PM and I'll get the name of who my co-worker dealt with at BMW of North America and relay to you.
