Doors cover for Oil filter and oil plug.

I have a new 2005 X5 4.4 and just discovered that both these doors covers are missing from under the engine. Should they be there or did the factory forget to install? Any help would be apprecitated.

Normal to have no "doors", just cut outs to access drain plug and oil filter.

I don't think there should be any "doors" there. Could you post your realoem link?

There are two plastic lids with a type of insulation on the inside part. They are not filter covers, the filter is on the top of the engine.

Flexstar has a 4.4 and the filter is on the bottom. I don't think there should be a door. Mine never had one. I just did an oil and filter change this morning so everything is still fresh in my mind.

The oil filter for the 4.4i is on the top of the engine, not the bottom.

That's what I first thought too because my other bmws' oil filters are on top. However, that's not the case with the 2005 4.4i. At least not for North American models. Either that or all these years I've been fooled into changing something totally different that contains darker coloured oil and a filter element.
