Have your friend pay to fix it. I don't think you can fix it without changing the whole thing. Since you are in NJ, you can try Mobile Innovations in Lodi, NJ and see if they can do. If you have to change then can consider getting the Alcantara headliner like janix did.

Any car audio shop can fix it. Call them in advance so their *upolstery* guy is there.
All they do is flock it - it's a process where they put like a primer glue on it, and rub a matching powedery fabric stuff on it till it blends it. These guys do it all the time...........as dvd holes, etc need to be covered up for vehicles that are going to be returned under lease. It won't look 100% mint but it will at least put you in the ballpark. |

Go to the drugstore and buy a razor blade or a hardware store would have a razor blade scraper. Next, get some tacky glue, not Super-Glue or Epoxy, but a tacky glue that dries clear. I believe Elmer's even makes one. With something underneath to catch the filings, rub the razor blade over the headliner in an inconspicuous location, as if you were testing for colorfastness with a cleaning product. You may need to try several angles to achieve the desired effect (some of the matierial being shaved off into your collection area), and once you've accumulated more than you think you'll need to cover the hole, begin to work it into a ball with your thumb and index finger. The oils from your skin will help to bond those fibers together. Dab a small amount of the glue into the hole. For a hole on the ceiling, a tongue depressor or popsicle stick is a good tool to use for making sure it's just in the hole, and not on the good part of the headliner. Now, take your ball of headliner shavings and gently press it up into the hole, making sure to hold it there at least 30 seconds for the glue to take to it. You could also cut a piece of contact paper (comes off the back of a sticker) to fit the hole, glue the shaving to it first, refine the shape, and then glue the paper with the shavings to the hole. This bonds easier, but for dark fabrics, that paper is likely to show through, unless you can find some dark-colored paper. Let the patch dry according to the instructions on your specific glue. Touch it up with a fabric shaver/pill remover, using light motions, and you've just spent less than 10 bones to cover that burn. JV
