Heated Rear Seat retrofit, has anyone done it?
I am thinking to add a heat elements to my Rear seat, took a picture of what's under the seat itself. Can anyone please tell me what those connectors are for? Just wanted to know if my 2004 4.4 is pre-wired for it or not. Thanks! |

I wonder ... if I have that big plug with 5 pins under my seat and 2 plugs on the sides... is it pre-wired? Can I just plug the heat elemnts into it and it will work? But then again, I don't know what's under Center Console, I guess buying two switches isn't enough... Online WDS at the top of the page does not show diagram images. Is it only on my computer or is everyone else experiencing the same problem? Last edited by blk133; 02-20-2008 at 07:20 PM. |

I wonder if it's possible to buy aftermarket heating elements and retrofit to existing wiring harness and OEM switches. I'm no good when it comes to reading the Wiring diagram, but maybe there's an electrical engineer on this forum who can help us figure this out?
I wonder if the 4-pin connector is for the seat bottoms, while the individual 2-pin connectors are for the backrests? |

Ok, after studying the wiring diagram for a little bit, it looks like it is "possible" to retrofit non-OEM seat heating elements with the OEM switches...i say this loosely since I'm not sure yet what kind of current draw is available vs. what seat heating elements are compatible...plus you'd need two-stage heat.
The 5-pin connector (actually a 6-pin connector with 5-pins) is intended to connect the lower seat heaters (left & right), while each of the 2-pin connectors attach to the left and right back rest heaters. These harnesses (5 pin and 2-pin) seem to be connected to each other in the diagrams even though they appear to be separate under the bench seat. The backrest heating element needs two wires to connect to two pins. The seat bottom heating elements is a little trickier. Each element has to have a temp sensor in it to monitor heat level. The switches on the console will read the temp to determine when to shutoff/turn on. These pins might be shared by both the left and right seat bottom elements...but i'm not 100% sure, might need someone's help to read it correctly since there are a total of 5-pins available for two elements and temp sensors in each. Other than that, you would need relay terminal 15, OEM switches, and to get proper mating connectors or rig it so that it will connect to the OEM harnesses under the seat. Anyone with feedback would be great. I'd hate to get anyone's hopes up by messing up the Wiring Diagram analysis. If this works, it'd be a heck of a lot cheaper than buying new seats! |

I am not concerned about backrest heating as I am about bottom. I think I'd retrofit just the bottom of the seat. I'd do the same with the front seats as well (just the bottom part). I didn't know that there is a temp reader somewhere, because I read that some people got their seats burned as well as their pants with OEM front heated seats. Go figure how good that temp reader really is...
