fuel gauge reading empty on full tank

Just filled it up a couple days ago and have not driven since. Now fuel guage is reading empty and warning light is on. WTF!? Computer says "Range --- Miles" on bootup. I tried turning car off and then restarting, same problem. Everything else is fine.

I have been charging my weak battery and today was first day I could get it started and I drove to work. It barely turned over. We will see if it starts later without a jump.

Most likely I will replace the battery. But do I have another problem with fuel guage or is computer just in limp mode? Should I try disconnecting battery alltogether for a little while.

Thanks for help guys!!!

OK now my dad says he recalls this happening a few times after filling up, he said it went away. We will see.

Sounds like you have a pair of fuel level senders in your future. Try running Shell gas it might free the up.

That sucks. What does this mean? Will car continue to run well? I only put top tier (QT/Costco) in there AND i have run 2 bottles of BG44K somewhat recently.

WTF!!!!!

Where are these level senders and how are they replaced?

I find it strange (but not surprising) my dad had this same issue. I hope it goes away for me too. Every day something new is broken lol.

This has happened to many members, including myself. The needle wouldn't move from "E" until I drove more than 50 miles. The dealer wanted $500 to replace the part...I said 'no thanks!' I decided to try using only Shell gasoline, as suggested by other members here. Since the switch to Shell (roughly two years now), my fuel gauge has been operating perfectly. *KNOCKING ON WOOD*

What's Shell gas got to do with it, got to do with it

Seriously... Is it there some lube in the gas to get the sender moving again? So are you saying I can drive 50 miles to fix it? In one shot or just aggregate?

Thanks---now that song is going to be stuck in my head the rest of the night!

I'm not sure if yours will re-adjust itself at the same point mine did. Until mine was "fixed," I would make sure to fill up every 300 miles, just to be safe.

Hmm ok I will try this shell thing. BUT... still confused did you drive 50 miles on one trip to reset? Or just 50 miles after filling up?

I would fill up the tank, but the needle wouldn't move. It still showed that the tank was empty. After traveling around 50 miles, the needle would move to the full position. This happened every time i filled up until I started using Shell exclusively.
