Automatic transmission problems

My 4.4L with 150.000Km on the clock has a transmission problem. I lost my reverse gear. Anytime I tried to reverse, the engine just revs and the X5 stays on the same place. If I am in a horizontal plan, it moves very very very slowly while in reverse, but if there´s a sligh ramp it just doesn´t move at all. All the other gear work normaly, so it´s not the clucth otherwise it wouldn´t move forward too. Only the reverse gear doesn´t work and I don´t get the " Trasmission safe mode" notice on the dash, which is bizarre. Will take the car to dealer but would like to hear what you have to say.

Reverse uses a different clutch pack from the forward gears. The only option for an Auto is a complete rebuild whenever there is a problem. Brace yourself for at least 5k plus in repairs. It could be a linkage or control unit issues, either way this will be a very large repair bill.

Does this just happen to the 01-03's? In 2004 it got a new 6 speed tranny. I wonder if it's still problematic.
