For the amount you pay for the real leather you can buy some pretty good upgrades! Besides, I have 3 kids and with the leatherette it's less to worry about!!!

If I am going to spend the extra money on a BMW it damn well better have real leather in it! Just my opinion of course

Leather is much softer and comfy, the downside is that leatherette ages better...

We had an X3 with leatherette as a loaner. It does not feel bad, but you can easily tell it is not leather. It is stiffer, rougher, and not as soft as real leather. I like the idea of the leatherette, but I doubt it breaks in as well as real leather.

Dude the leatherette stinks soooooo bad. I have leather seats (and two kids) The leather holds up better and you can just wipe it down. I get so tired of that old myth that you shouldn't get leather if you have kids. BS!

One of the drivers at BMW Seattle told me this story that this one customer hated the smell so bad, she had it towed in to get the real Leather seats put in.
