For all of you out there that have a BMW X5 (e53 with xDrive) I drove it on soft sand today on the beach. I live in Long Island New York and there are many beaches that allow trucks to drive on the beach. Smith Point County Park is where I went today. I was skeptical that the X5 would be able to drive in such soft sand. But I disabled the ASC and lowered the air in all 4 tires to approx 15 PSI and it handled like a champ! No issues what so ever. I even drove by a Jeep Wrangler that was stuck and getting towed out by another Jeep!
There is about 10 miles of beach I can drive on (Atlantic Ocean) but I drove about 1 mile down for this first time. No pictures yet but I will post them next time I go! |

With the width of the tires on my X5 I would imagine driving on sand isn't that bad at all....especially if I deflated them slightly.
