Fairly early on the ol'Odo for InspII, imo...
if you think it's "good/necessary" for your car, I would hit an Indie: I got an extremely thorough inspection for much less than any dlr. Worth the ~$1G CDA? Probably not, imo. Hit Search Tab for pages of opins, what is really "done", Indie ideas, etc. GL,mD

Fwiw, here is the InspII list...how much any given dlr does, or how much
scrutiny is put into the process is anyone's guess. I had mine done at a top notch Indie in Asheville: I got to watch, walk around under the car with the tech(s), etc. I wish I had recorded it as it was extremely thorough and informative. GL,mD Here is the list from the homepage: Items Covered on Inspection II Undercarriage

Question(s)
I have a 2001 3.0 w/ ~94,*** miles.
PO had the Insp II done (great PO!). Is the insp II servces every 50k? Do they do the Fuel Filter in the insp II? PO has all the records from day 1 and even the window sticker but i can not find any info about having the fuel filter done. I use a can of Seafoam ~3k miles in the gas too. How many miles can a filter be good for on the X5 (didnt find info on it in the manuals). On my Range Rover Classics i did it ~50-60k. I am going to do part of my 100k this summer and do the rest next summer when it hits 100K (we only drive ~5k a yr on the x5, only ride too!!). Plus the amount of parts i buy will not look so bad when the wife sees the bills...lol This summer: Fuel filter Diff fluid change TC fluid change and a couple of other things too. Next summer: plugs o2 sensors and etc... Coolant was changed in Nov '07, 84k. I got lucky! The water pump went out on the lot at the bimmer dealer, they replaced the pump, belt, and fan! i think i need to change the coolant every four years so i am good till fall 2011... thanks for any info! Cheers, Aaron

in comparing my e46 M3 to the E53 X5, IMHO the inspection 2 price and/or extended maintenance -
M3 - worth it X5 - not worth it clutch coverage and valve adjustment were 100% worth it for the M3 X5 - parts you can get for cheaper and the majority of the inspection are checks. A great inde will be your best friend for inspections on the X5. |

If you delete the checks, resets and inspects you are left with...
Change engine oil and filter while engine is at normal operation temperature. Clean brake pad contact points in calipers. Grease wheel center hubs. In case of uneven tread wear readjust wheel alignment if required. Replace spark plugs. Replace intake air cleaner element Perform battery load test. A tire shop would be best for a front end alignment. $200 labor plus parts. IMO Dealers try to BS owners that the warranty will be voided without this service. As mentioned...save $$ by using an indy shop for out of warranty work.. Last edited by v10rick; 08-19-2009 at 03:18 PM. |
