Exclamation Tire Help Needed! 2001 X5 4.4i Staggered fit

Hello,
98K miles
I need some help. My x5 has the staggered fitment with 19's all the way around, and 255-50-19's in the front and I don't know what in the rear (I can't look because it's in the shop). I do know they are way wider in the rear.
I have bad ball joints and control arms and it made the front of my X pidgeon toed. Now the edge of each front tire, inside I think) is down to cord almost belt.
My quesiton is this:
Will 255-55-19's fit all the way around? I have some used Pirelli's (Zero)from my Range Rover Sport. How much wider is the wheel in the back of my X? Will these tires mess with the all wheel drive? Even though I only need new fronts, the shop says I must match the tread and brand to the rear otherwise I am asking for trouble.

If anyone has changed from staggered to standard or hear of someone who has, please let me know.

p.s.
The reason I took the X in was because it was running rough, and a check engine light. Come to find out, the purge valve was stuck open causing misfires, and there was no oil on the dipstick. I bought this thing 1 year ago and have put about 3K miles on it. The guy said it hadn't been serviced in years. Add a $600 100K mile service and the purge valve and suspension problems and I am $2K without the two tires I need..

I need new plugs as well.

The rear tire size is 285-25-19. I doubt I can get the same size tires all the way around as the front wheel is 19x9 and the rear is 19x10. Can anyone confirm this?

It appears that my staggered fitment came from the sport.

There is a spark plug thread floating around now. Get NGK's from Autozone, Schucks, etc...$7.00

No, you can't fit the same width tire on a 9" and 10" wheel. That defies the whole point of staggered.

Not an expert here but, you can fit non staggered tires on staggered rims.

Mine is that way and I asked this question here last year. I have 255-50-19's all the way around, but my rear rims are bigger and would accept the OEM 285-45-19's. The rims are all marked, I have checked. It is not uncommon to run the 255-50-19's all the way around.

It's the way it was when I bought it, rides fine, when it is time for new summer tires I will probably go to the staggered set up.

I would imagine that stretching the tires to make them fit would ruin the intergrity of the sidewalls, and being that these things weight almost 5000lbs, I wouldn't wanna risk a stretched tire breaking the bead in a corner just to save money.

If I was FAT X5, I'd just look at it as having two extra front tires. They do all the turning and 80% of the breaking, so I'd imagine the front will wear faster than the rears anyways. Sure, the rears will wear due to the camber, so on my 7iL I switch the tires off each rim to the left and right every six months so they wear better.

Great info. I know it defeats the point of staggered, but I don't care about it right now. I don't have the $3K for repairs and all new tires. I am trying to get the tires done and be as safe as possible. The question is, what is the minimum tire width for a 10" rim... the stock 275 is much wider than the fron 250 or 255...

255 tyres fit rim sizes 7 to 9 inch .
fitting 55 profiles on front with the standard 285/45R19 on rear will have a circumference difference of 3.17% . the spec allows a 3% difference so you will be slightly out of spec .

Here is the thread I posted a while back: http://www.Xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...d-but-not.html

I think the tire manufacturers give a range of rim sizes that they will fit. Mine are not stretched.
