Knock Knock, its a broken top strut mount

OK, I lowered my X with B&G springs, adjustable endlinks and used Dinan camber plates. Installed new Struts and Top strut mounts as the old strut mounts had cracks. See Pic below:

I have put about 1,000 miles on since the install. Just yesterday I start hearing a knocking sound coming from the driver side strut. Turns out the the rubber area that holds the strut has completely broken and is allowing the strut to bang around. Has anybody heard of the top strut mount failing like this?

Yes, I think mine does that on my passenger side. Its like a screetch sound everytime I go over my driveway. Its either that or my sway link... I have bought new strut tops havent got around to putting them on. How does it sound now?

your bump stop needs to be cut since the vehicle is lowered now and the pistons travel is not. the bump stop is the rubber bushing on the struts piston.

When I put on my Bilstiens, it said "built in bumpstop" no need to reuse. But the hole on the old bump stock is tiny...Id have to shave it off with a drilll to reuse... but I still want to add them for extra support... so maybe when i replace the strut mount Ill add the old bump stop.

by cutting did you mean the inner hole or the length of the bump stop

The length of the bumpstop should be cut half an inch so it never hits the top strut mount causing the rubber to pop off

No screetch noise, just knocking noise when ever the shock compressed.

Same here, did not put the bump stop back. The shaft on the Bilstiens is much larger than the stock sachs.

Yeah, mine does that everytime I go over a speedbump or small pothole, etc. Very annoying. I need to get it fixed, but too lazy and cheap to get it done right now.
