LCM issue

so as i finally decide that maybe now is the right time to start a little modding out of nowhere i notice my headlight is out after much troubleshooting it turns out to be a lcm issue, have found some for sale and the stealership seems to want a kidney for one,
so after some research have also found that our lcm are the same as used in e39 bmw's long story short i just ordered 4 chips off of mouser.com and keeping my fingers crossed that i receive them fast and will keep this thread updated as i know there will be many to follow with this problem.

the side project i thought i would tackle was to update the look of the exhaust and possible straight pipe.

I had LCM issue with my E46 (99 323i) and my research led me to conclude that a new or used LCM will require reprogramming since there's data stored in the LCM that is cross referenced. I bought a used LCM off a 2000 328i from eBay. I got lucky and it worked without any tamper light coming on.

I'm very interested on how your project turns out for when this happens to my X5 so I'm subscribing to your thread. Good luck, I hope all goes well!!!

Been there done that! My LKM was replaced under CPO by the $tealer. It took 18 hrs attached to the computer to do the programming. Are you actually going to try epairing the board?

there is no programming a LCM, it is only coding, it writes the vin, and the SIA data, and then adopts the coding code to select which options to turn on or off, it takes tops 10 minutes.

So The Hartford CT dealer was full of baloney as I'm repeating what he told me when I called to collect the vehicle.

yes, the LCMs for any I-BUS vehicle do not have any programmable flash memory, it is pre-programed from the manufacturer, LEAR i believe is the vendor. the 18 hours they claim they took, probably for diagnosis, or they crashed your car, and needed extra time to fix it before you take your car.

They actually had the vehicle for a week all told. It took 3 days for tham to work out where the fault codes were stored for the LKM. New Country is, I'm told, now under new ownership. I could write a book about our CPO from hell.
