Just replaced my '03 X5 3.0L LCD screen. I bought the LQ065T9BR51U. When I took out bad screen, the p/n is LQ065T9BR51T. Nevertheless, the "U" seems to work fine. Thanks for this thread and especially the YouTube video.

Just replaced my navigation LCD screen with one from Ebay for $130 shipped (seller was in Minnesota). I had a constant yellow hue and one spot of dead pixels.

My original screen was a 51U. I cannot tell a difference externally from the two LCDs. For some reason they cover up the "SHARP Made in Japan" stamping with stickers that say "Made in China".

No dead pixels on the new LCD, but my image was shifted off about 1 cm to the right. Bummer. Had to disassemble the whole thing and then reassemble with the LCD hanging by the ribbon cable so I could adjust the H-POS potentiometer on the back-side. I also noticed some ghosting, but adjusting the VCO potentiometer solved that issue.

Last photos shows before and after.

Comments:
- Don't forget to remove the protective film from the new LCD
- Place the LCD and electronics into the front plastic frame (has the buttons) first, then tuck in the 2-wire cable for the front light sensor, and lastly press the rear plastic frame on
- turn the H-POS counter-clockwise to shift the image to the left (about 45 degrees for me)
- turn the VCO in very slightly in either direction to remove ghosting and fine tune the image

Someone else who had the image shifted to the right:

So the display on my nav went black a while back. Everything works, just the display is not lit up. Not wanting to drop $600 on a new nav display head unit I found an alternate solution. Jimmy Chen in New Jersey will do repairs for a fraction of the cost. Jimmy posts repair services as auctions on eBAY for BMW and Mercedes. I called Jimmy and talked w/him about the problem with my display. He said it could be repaired for $180 and to a mail a check for the amount and the unit to him.

Finding only limited posts/comments about him, and the fact that there is no physical business I was a bit suspicious. I searched a bit more and found some positive comments/threads on the web and decided to go for it. I mailed my display to Jimmy, and about a week half later (I am in California) I got it back.

His info:

I will report back after I fix my system...
Hey Everyone,

For those with screen issues and you live in the tristate area, I highly recommend Jimmy. He changed my original, 10 year old screen which had discoloration and a million dead pixels to a new one. Jimmy works very clean, fast and out of his house. I made an appointment with him for last Saturday morning and he was waiting for me. He took out the head unit, replaced the screen and reinstalled the head unit in approximately less than an hour. He charged me $250 which I didn't mind paying since I'm not really mechanically inclined.

BTW, the original unit's # was LQQ065T9BR51U & I have an 05 4.4i. Unfortunately, I didn't take a pic or get the info off of the screen Jimmy installed.

Just for people who have tried to follow this thread through but couldn't make out what the correct part is -

LQ065T9BR54U is not the correct part, the viewing angle is poor. Yes you can see the screen from the drivers seat but by that angle the screen is starting to white-out a bit. The eBay seller I brought this from said it's suitable for the E53 but it's not an acceptable replacement and I had to return it. Buy LQ065T9BR51U.

I'm going to add my name to the list of people saying thanks for this DIY. I was surprised how simple it was and how quickly I was able to get it done. I'm going to have to go in and pull it all back out again since my horizontal shift is off, but that's a project for another day.

LQ065T9BR52 is original fitted in the 65528385454 bord monitor (German LHD 7er / 5er), checked it up by myself. Had to replace the screen after cleaning it too hard, the transreflective surface got a bit scratched

Great Thread! I used this thread, it's tips, and the referred to PDF to replace my LCD Screen with the Sharp unit I bought out of Hong Kong for $104. Took 3 weeks for it to show up,....and an hour to an hour and a half to complete the remove and install.

Thanks to everyone who contributed.
