Change Instrument Cluster/MID/OBC Language to English..How? Help! :-(
My X5 was purchased and imported from Germany a few years (2007) and was shipped to Manila (yes the Philippines Islands!) I was wondering how I can change the instrument cluster, MID and Radio display language to English from this current language (maybe German - don't know) on my own without going to the dealers (to save those pesos). Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Thanks jst2878 for the tip!
I came across this in a website - http://www.europeantransmissions.com...20Language.pdf I will test it and let you guys know immediately if it works: RESETTING THE BMW DASH LANGUAGE The language is stored in the Coding Plug. This is located in chocolate-brown harness connector on the back of the instrument cluster. After 2/89 this is a separate plug on the back of the cluster. When the cluster is first powered up the language is normally German by default. To change the language, 1. Ignition switch in the OFF position. 2. Press and HOLD the right instrument cluster button. 3. Turn the ignition switch to the on position. 4. Wait about 10 seconds. The next language will be displayed. 5. Hold the button until the desired language appears. If the language doesn't hold one of the following has occurred: a) Code Plug has bad connection. - Check wiring for breaks or shorts. Disconnect and then reconnect the Coding Plug on the back of instrument cluster. b) Coding Plug may be defective. Replace Coding Plug. c) Instrument cluster motherboard is dead. When this is the case there are normally other problems present, such as : jumpy needles, tripometer resets itself to zero, gong keeps sounding even after the brakes are depressed,...etc. |

Yii - Hahaha that's right! Thanks! The "Nebellicht hi prufen" as indicated on my instrument cluster actually meant "check foglights"!
Downloaded the German Dictionary/Translation from the iTunes Apps for iPhone last night :-) |

I've got a similar problem in that my cluster is also in a non English language. Did you get your cluster converted into English. If so how? Thanks |

I did this on my car, switched language from German to English. I have a 2001 mod. I used PaSoft 1.36, bought it on ebay for 30 bucks. I am sure the dealer can do it for you though.
