So, where is my Amp located in my X5. Under Spare Wheel ???

Hi all

Can somebody please clear this up once and for all. My Amp has gone faulty and I need to try and get to it to inspect/replace it. However, I have heard lots of different comments to where it may be situated. Can somebody PLEASE tell mw where it is and more importantly what it looks like.

If it helps, my X5 is 2005 model, 3.0i Petrol.
It has a Mk4 Nav Unit, TV etc.

Yesterday I had the spare wheel out and under that there is a dome. I undid the 3 bolts in the dome and under that (attached to it) was some sort of Air unit/Air pump etc. I still can't find my Amp and to be honest I don't even know what I'm looking for.

Thanks all

The DSP module is located in the left hand side of the trunk, under the shelf that hold the MK and CDC. It is the big black box at the bottom. You will have to remove some other plastic pieces in that area to get access to the bolts, in addition to the shelf area cover.

This might help:

(it looks like this)

it is removed during this DIY at these steps:

I also have the same question. I have a 2005 E53 4.4. Can someone look at these photos and let me know if I have DSP?

If you have DSP the easiest way to tell is to look at your controls up front since you have to be able to control it and create your memory settings or select the presets as well as adjust the EQ.

If you have the MID, then it will have a button along the right side that says AUDIO DSP and if you have the Nav Screen...when you press the MENU button...you should see DSP on the screen as an option to select (for adjustment). If there is no DSP option/selection on the component that is used to control your audio (MID or Nav), then you won't have DSP.

{MID w/DSP BUTTON}

{NAV SCREEN w/DSP OPTION}

Or, if you look at the top of your amp (which we can't see because your CD changer is blocking the view )...the DSP amp has THREE wiring harnesses connected to it...the non DSP amp only has TWO. (see A18 in the pic below...that is the AMP):
