Flmrustic,

I am sorry to hear about your issue with the X5. Knock on wood, I have had nothing go wrong with this 2005 4.4i X5 since its purchase in 2008. Picked this baby up with 27k miles in Idaho Falls and is now at just over 61k. Oil change every 5k miles an a set of 4 tires are the only expenses so far.

Don't know if there is room on the Reply Post to list all the issues this X5 has had but I will try. Items repaired or replaced under warranty: Heater Blower;Tranny Position Switch;Oil Filter Line Moved( was rubbing brake line);Elec Cooling Fan;Brake pedal pin recall;L&R door handle insert replaced;Rear Hatch Button Replaced;CD Holder Replaced;Driver Seat Belt Assmbly Replaced;Dri Door Wood Trim Replaced;Frt Centr Consol Cupholder replaced;Rear Hatch Assmbly Replaced;Pixels missing-Replace cluster;Replace Coolant Level Sensor;Replace Pre Cat OX Sensor;Reinstall Air Boot @ Mass Meter;replace Rotors,Pads,Sensor;Replace Coolant Resvoir;New 4.4 Emblem Install;Cntr Con Wood Trim Replaced;Pass Seat Trim Replaced;Repalce BMW Hood Emblem;Replace Frt Control Arms L&R;Replace Pre Cat OX Sen L&R;Replace Cam Sensor Bank2;Replace RR Speaker Trim;Replace LR Tail Light Assmbly;Paint/Replace Rear Hatch Assmbly; On going Pass Door Squeek, new Felt installed(Still squeeks);Replace Lic Plate Bracket;Replace Coolant Level Sensor;Replace Shifter Assmbly;Replace Coolant Re Cap;Replace 4 Door Handle Carriers.
I purchased this X5 in July 05' 10K under book from and individual. Good thing because to date I have spent over 19k on service/repair items since. I like my vehicles to be perfect so maybe I fixed some items that could have been ignored, but i didn't until this latest oil leak business, which will be repaired sooner or later, someday, maybe.

i believe if you do not have a BMW dealer with in a certain amount of miles from you, BMW of NA will tow the vehicle to the shop at no cost to you. This is true especially for Mini and RR vehicles.

Aston Martin towed my V8 Vantage to Seattle from Great Falls, MT(890 miles round trip). They fixed the oil leak under a recall and returned the vehicle at no cost. I hope BMW will have the same policy and will check up on it asap. Thanks Killcrap.

Leak fixed. vehicle back in my garage after having to make a few phone calls to BMW-NA... Roadside Assist picked it up and delivered it to Camp, BMW Spokane however I was never told that reuniting me with my car will be a different story. Camp, BMW wanted me to pay for the tow back home. Couple of calls rectified the issue, as the dealer is required to pay for the first 250 miles. Took the train 150 miles upstream and met the tow truck in Whitefish, MT. It all worked out just fine and the couple of hiccups... well forgotten by now.
