Jet Black VS Black Sapphire Metallic

Hey guys, just wondering what the differences are between these two blacks. I know theres a sparkle in the metallic, but a salesman told me that the BSM has a clear coat to it that the JB does not, making the JB easier to get dirty? Is this true?

No I don't think that's true. First of all, JB has a clear coat as well. And second of all, I think I can actually notice the dirt on my BSM X5 easier than on my previous car, a JB 328Ci. (Maybe due to the increased sparkle on the metallic )
For what it's worth, he may be pushing you toward the metallic paint because he thinks it's a $495 option - which it is on many BMWs, but not the X5. But being that it's a no-cost option on the X5, I chose it over JB just for the hell of it.

Get BSM its nicer than JB in my opinion. Plus your getting it for free and on other bimmers you gotta pay for it. JB is to plain for me.

They both have their ups and downs...A deep shine on Jet Black is abolutely awesome, but without the extra time and effort, the "dullness" is very evident...With Mettalic paint, the flakes "add" to that psuedo-shine without all the extra fuss...And in a sunny environment, many, including yourself, will not see your car as black at all after a while...it looks a LOT more like a charcoal gray than black...I guess that is the answer. If you want a BLACK car with no confusion otherwise, JB is the way to go...If its just a classy finish, MetBlk is...

Another fine example of a salesperson not knowing crap, or worse yet, stating half-truths, or untruthitudes as I like to call them.

JB is stunning when clean and free of swirls. I had a JB 3er and started to hate it as it aged. Washing it was painful. BSM is very nice and the metallic component will better hide swirls, IMO.

I do have the BSM and was told the same thing by a BMW sales person. My experience is that the swirls are more hidden with the BSM. Maybe it's the metallic paint that acts as a disguise, but never the less, I find it easier to keep clean. Just my 2 cents.

Ok, I can't believe that a salesperson would say that. It's rediculous. All modern paints are clearcoated, they don't make them any other way.

I agree there's no better color than JB when new and clean. Give it a few years and everything starts to show: swirl marks, scratches, dust, dirt, grimes, road salts.....you name it. I once had a JB 325 that became arctic silver. I'll never get JB again.

agreed

My Jet Black X3 has changed over 20K miles and almost 2 years. I still love it, but the swirls and pit marks are starting to show... I'd go JB again in a heartbeat.
