Actually, when I was looking for a new car I test drove a E39 540 IT and was impress with the acceleration, but it wasn't a 4x4, but now having lived with the E53, I sometime wish I brought the E39 instead.

I carry the kids bikes on the roof and the wife and mine on a rear trailer hitch, and the only way for me to put the kids bikes on the roof is if I step on a stool first. With the touring it was a lot easier to put the bikes on the roof.

I love the E39 540iT - crazy me has now owned 2 of them. Latest is a 2003, last of the E39s that came to the US. Power / Acceleration / Torque are great on those cars.

Some newer pics of the car. I also found out today that the Control Arm bushings were replaced 25K miles ago along with the CV boots, plugs, as well as both front and rear brakes.

The PO sent me some more records. Seems the car was looked after, I even got a Husky trunk liner with it.
