parking sensor not working

At the parking lot at work i thought the parking sensor was not working. So when i went home i tested it and it was working. But this morning i tested it multiple times and it is not working. I would get the error routine (beep and the blinking light on the sensor button). any ideas?

Which Sensor? Front or rear? Did you turn PDC on and then listen for the clicking from the sensor? Is that how you tested it?

so, you did not really tested any of the 8 sensors... go ahead, when you have a chance, test it as Twin mentioned - then let us know what is happening... the sensors could be plain dirty...

Ok, so you don't know which sensor is busted then. To test it, turn the car on without the motor running and turn PDC on. From there, put your ear around the car on each sensor. You will hear a series of click. If there is a sensor that is clicking slow or not clicking at all, you found your faulty sensor.

x2 no click = dead sensor. I have 2 dead ones so I pulled fuse for PDC to quiet everything down.

o.k i did what you guys said and found the bad sensor. now what

Lets back up a little. This sat it was working again i wipe clean the sensor and it work fir the whole day.. i thought i fix the problem. But after washing my x5 sunday did not work again. Did the check and it is the left rear sensor on the rear bumper. (BY THE WAY YOU CAN HEAR AND FEEL THE SENSOR CLICKING)

So what now. It could be a bad connection or bad sensor either way I have to get to it and remove it. Any one have the procedure. Any one knows how much a sensor cost. Thanks

two possible part numbers

66206989069 - you probably need this one, there are 6 of these

66206989068 - and i think this one is diff type for the front bumper, only two are used on these cars...

they are about $100 brand new from a dealer

but if your is working one moment and not the other moment, maybe you should check for a poor contact first?

There are E53 sensors on Ebay that are under $30. If you go that route be sure you buy from a seller that has a 98% or greater rating and from many buyers. If I recall correctly Bavauto price is over $100.

Be sure you have cleaned the 'lens' with wax remover--dishwashing soap or paint thinner.

If you used a pressure washer that could explain why it stopped working after it was washed-water where it should be. WD-40 could fix the problem until water gets in again.
