POTENTIAL airbag issue with sports steering wheel
 this is shown in the pics on one side the yellow clip is flattened and damaged i guess so this probably wont fully engage in socket, and on the other side is shortened bcos it was cut and the part cut off is stuck on the airbag side in the scoket, this combined with a read of a post on here shown below has got me real worried I will have the same issue once all connected up again...http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ing-wheel.html If I can buy the tiny yellow plastic portion of the connector/clip that is damaged great, can ? or will i have to get the whole connector-green part too and dismantle old one, i was able to get the yellow damaged part off with ease using my fingernail..but not sure comes as a separate part? the note by weasel is what is getting me worried:  Weasel  Almost never on here anymore  Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: New Orleans, La Posts: 6,909  Driving doesn't clear airbag codes... I really wish "code readers" gave the full fault description like I get at work as there are numerous possible faults with each airbag circuit. If the light is out now with the original bag on there I'd wait for the key to be off for a few minutes so the circuit isn't "awake" or monitored and swap over to the new setup. When the old bag is out before putting the new one in I'd look really closely at every little piece of the connectors of both to make sure no little tabs are broken on it. The reason for this is there is what is called a "terminating bridge" on the airbag connector that jumps both pins together when it is unplugged to prevent static/electric charge from deploying the bag. And if the connector isn't 100% engaged when plugged in that will still have it jumped and throw the code for "resistance too low" meaning it sees a short. I'd try the new setup again paying extra attention to making sure the connector is fully engaged and all locks in place on the locking connector.

What year X5 and steering wheel do you have?
There is a way to remove the green connector, I did it several months ago but can't remember. Slide the yellow lock or similar. Regardless you need to remove the yellow part still in the air bag. The green connector may have a BMW part number on it, otherwise you can buy the harness - I think it would be part number 61 31 6 902 140. Once you put it together (ignition off), the air bag error code MIGHT clear by itself. If not, have a shop clear it for you.

I'd say you need part #5, BMW 32 30 6 766 855, which is what connects your air bag to the slip ring. The BMW connector alone might be available, you need to determine the part number prefix to have the full part number, i.e 61 31 8 379 424, but it might not be serviced.

Gregory thanks again, part number 5 is not present (neither is 6 for that matter as many have mentioned) there are just two connectors coming of steering wheel that plug direct into airbag, either way would you think that the yellow damaged clips(on the green connector) are there for securing purposes only? , to secure connector to airbag firmly? or have they any other purpose? I dont see how these tabs being damaged will be an issue whilst the actual part of the green connector that makes contact with the pins on air bag are fine....? I have to check bmw tomorrow , it is way past their bedtime here
