craig, the AUX appears when the left/right channels sense 300 kOhm resistance between them. it means your cable does not have that resistance... or, the specified resistor is placed between wrong pins... that part number - where did you come up with it? the AUX is wired differently on different models, and even same models with diff option... yeah, yeah, i know, there are only three wires, how many versions can you have - believe me, the BMW explored all of them... lol...
how good are you with electronics? wires? your harness should have 1 brown wire, ground... that one run uninterrupted... the other two wires get "shorted" to each other with a 300 kOhm resistor. and then, 2 22nF capacitors are placed in line on the 3.5mm jack side... is yours wired like that? |

I'm not sure how mine is wired. I will have to pull it out today and look at it. I got the part number off the instructions that came with the cord. It was made for three models including the e53.

when you pull the nav monitor out, look at the connector that is part of the car's harness - check for the colors of the wires, then check the colors of the wires of your harness - since both sides are factory colors, they should match pin for pin... you may have to use a needle to switch the pins on your harness... very simple solution...

I took the head unit out again, and switched the pins to every possible combination. No combination of pins worked. The only thing I wondered was whether I got the pins pushed in far enough for the first couple of combinations. Such a pain in the butt. And no the wires on the aux cable and the wires on the vehicle harness are not the same color. I'm pretty sure that the aux cable is OEM though.

Here is the schematics of that cable... there are only so many ways you can go...
do you have a 300 kOhm resistor laying around somewhere? you could pick one up from the shack, and test the pins on the car harness, to see, which pins will pick up the AUX... or... test the harness itself for the resistance - just gotta remember, that one side (the 3.5mm side) will not measure resistance, as there are two capacitors in line with each audio wire... |

I think I have one around somewhere. I'll look tomorrow.

Actually no. I ordered a new cable. I have had bigger problems with my vehicle than an AUX cable though so I've put this issue on the back burner until I've put my vehicle back together. Then I'll try to install the new cable and see if that fixes the problem.

Where did you get this AUX kit from?
