Great job. Wish you were closer as I would love to help on this project as it looks like a deep dive into our SAV Beasts that would provide great insight.

Spoke to Raj at Beisan and the procedure is the same for my type of Vanos, it just has a metal housing instead of a plastic one.
So with the knowledge that I wouldn't screw up some hidden plastic housing, I was able to dig out the Teflon and O-Ring without any trouble. Inserting the new O-Ring went without a hitch And sliding in the Teflon ring was also straightforward There is a little curviness with the ring fully installed, but that should not impact the function of the ring, and should straighten itself out once it gets hot. Raj did say that with the metal housing vs. the plastic one, I won't be able to time the Vanos using a multimeter. I guess I'll figure out how to deal with that when the time comes. Craig got my parts list and is working on pricing for me. With a bit of luck, I'll start putting the engine back together by the weekend!

Placed an order this morning with Craig for the following:
Savings of several hundred dollars over what I had come up with previously! And with the savings, why not go ahead and freshen up the front suspension. I'm also listing the fluids that I plan to use. Hopefully the stuff from Craig will be here by the weekend.

The main shipment of parts has not showed up yet, but I'm hopeful it will be the first part of next week.
I did hear from Eriksson, and the torque converter has been rebuilt and was shipped out Thursday. So I started cleaning the covers. Rear main seal cover One of the upper timing covers. Note to self to use locktite on this one bolt. These 2 covers cleaned up I noticed that the washers on the RMS cover have rubber centers. I'm pretty sure I ordered replacements. It was one of these that was causing the leak I noticed before removing the cover.

My rebuilt torque converter showed up today.
It has a distinct rattle, but I suppose that's the lockup mechanism and normal since there is no fluid in it?

Incidentally, the ‘029’ (4.4i) and ‘034’ (4.6is) versions of the 5HP24 use the same bellhousing casting but the stiffening webs are partially machined for the 034 to provide the necessary clearance for the larger 280mm torque converter (029 uses the 260mm F38 unit)
