N62 engine cooling system bleeding procedure

I replaced my leaking expansion tank and noisy latent heat pump and needed to bleed the cooling system after the repairs. I had searched high and low to no avail for cooling system bleeding procedure for my 2005 X5 with 4.4 engine. Bentley manual does not provide the directions for bleeding the N62/N62S engines. In fact, it warns that for later engines with latent heat pump, do not turn on the ignition at all and refer to BMW dealer. TIS does not have information either.

So here are the instructions for anyone looking (note- follow at your own risk and no warranties provided):

Tools required are coolant pressure tester ($80 from harborfreight) and a flat blade screwdriver.

1) Top up cooling system to max with pre-mixed (50/50) coolant and distilled water.
2) Connect pressure tester and build pressure up to 1.5 bar (22psi).
3) Undo bleed screw, apply pressure until coolant comes out of bleed screw and keep applying pressure until a steady coolant flow is coming out of bleed screw.
4) Tighten screw while pressure is applied.
5) Release pressure.
6) Top up coolant and fit radiator cap.
7) Wash away spilt coolant by lightly spraying water with garden hose set to shower and dry the water (I used my leave blower). Take care not to spray water directly onto the electrical connections and alternator.
8) Run engine up to full operating temp (light revs 1200 rpm, 5 mins at full operating temp).
9) Allow engine to fully cool down and, if necessary, top up coolant level when cold.

To test for leaking cooling system, pressurize the system to 22-psi, wait for 2 minutes and the system should not have lost more than 1.5 psi.
