i have lifted this off a russian BMW site, and i am digging in my archives, in hopes that i can find something useful for you - this probably will not help much in your case, but just in case - here is a PDF for an LCM repair

Any used LCM will need to be coded to your cluster assembly , otherwise you will have the orange tamper proof dot illuminate on the cluster. Not 100% certain if you can program a used LCM to an existing cluster

a used LCM can be programmed to a higher mileage than it presently has, same goes for cluster... along with a VIN number... there are only so many attempts left for the programming of either of the two... dealers will stay away from a used LCM (or cluster) as they are discouraged by the BMW AG to touch used LCMs or clusters, while independents might be able to help out...
on a component level, if the EEPROM is not fried, you can try to replace the MOSFETs but it might prove to be a hard task... with fried EEPROM, might as well get a new LCM, that might also have some new functions, like fogs together with highbeams, or whatnot...

I appreciate all the replies. I wasn't aware that the coding required the used LCM to have a lower mileage. Either way, I'd like to take the used route due to cost. So that brings me to whether any LCM will replace what I have as long as it is of the same age or newer? How can I can the age of the different versions? Again, thanks for the help.

Quote:
1. It doesn't require lower LKM mileage at all. 2. LKMs are not 'programmed' - they are coded and FGNR/Mileage can be changed infinitely 3. Individual coding is best done with NCSEXPERT 4. Most LKM from your year or newer will work Sent from a telephonic contraption |

so, the mileage and the VIN can be programmed/coded into an LCM using an NCSExpert? I did not know that what is the procedure?

Due to redundant data storage between the LCM & IKE ... The 6 data points plus the last 2 paragraphs have to be asked & answered when installing used components.
As stated above...there is after market software that can accomplish the coding of these 2 used modules (basically zeroing them so that the VIN or mileage can be written to or overwritten)...which refers back to overcoming the 6 data points. BMW proprietary equipment at the dealerships can't code used non officially refurbished modules...this is a somewhat official handcuff to prevent unscrupulous dealerships from rolling back odometers...or at least forcing them to have "clean hands" if ever accused of such practices.

Hi guys, does anyone know what the left and right signal light wires on on the LCM? I'm thinking of connecting my Kahtec one click lane changer device to this (as another member did on his 5 (or maybe it was a 7 series) and had success.
Now that I know its hiding on the right side footwell by door, I just need to see which wires are the positive wires (front corner light, repeaters on side and rear) for left and right sides thanks all.

connector
X12 - pin 1 - right turn signal in headlight X12 - pin 14 - side fender right signal X38 - pin 12 - right turn signal, tail light X38 - pin 11 - left turn signal in headlight X38 - pin 4 - side fender left signal X12 - pin 8 - left turn signal, tail light I am not sure what you are planning to do, if you are applying a "counter-voltage", make sure you put a diode, that will prevent the backfeed of the voltage
