Front & Rear Wiper Functions Crossed - Resolved

When I actuate the wiper control for front to spray washer fluid, the front wipers turn on but the washer fluid for back window pumps. Conversely, when I actuate the wiper for rear to spray, the rear wipers turn on but the front sprays fluid. So, the wipers respond correctly but the pumps seem swapped.

I think this just started after having some major service (head gasket replacement) done on my 2001 X5 3.0.

I think this is perhaps a simple fix... maybe cable connections got incorrectly reversed. But would need to see wiring diagram to make better sense.

Anyone have input and/or wiring diagrams?

Thanks in advance.

very simple fix - either the actual pumps are switched or the connectors - they are within couple of inches from each other... pop the hood, look at the washer tank. if you have headlight washers, that pump is a bit bigger than the other two pumps, and if you don't have the headlight washers, just switch the connectors or the pumps themselves... 5 minute job...

Ditto TX...you shouldn't make this more difficult than it is...it's as simple as it's mentioned and as you assumed in your post.

The front & rear washer pumps sit right next to each other and are identical...so they can easily be mixed up by not paying attention...with the headlamp washer pump looking different and slightly further away from the other two:

Just raise the hood and take a look...should be simple to fix or figure out if the electrical connectors, or pumps, or hoses have been connected to the wrong one...and fix by just swapping what ever is hooked up wrong to the correct pump for the tailgate & windshield washer:

Thanks all. Perfect diagnosis. I swapped power connectors between the pumps and all fixed.

thanks
