Dang, that has to be the easiest repair. Found a Dorman expansion tank with level sensor and cap for $102 at O'reilly auto. Tank was of much sturdier construction, and came with a lifetime warranty. Two hours from diagnostics to clean up (including auto-vent). BTW I assume the cap question is mute now since the same tank and cap covered 2007 - 2013. I love this site.

Nah

I replaced the expansion tank when I did my radiator swap. I will say this, I hope you replaced the thermostat when you were in there doing the water pump.

I didn't and it seems that this is causing a slight malfunction with my thermostat. I get a random check engine light when I am romping on it or if the AC is on in stop and go traffic. I am pretty sure the water pump is on the way out.

I find that it doesn't happen when I turn the rear climate in the passenger side to high heat which I know is counter productive when the AC is on but my extended warranty wont cover the water pump until it fails completely fails....so my Indy said drive it till it fails and if it toasts the motor they'll have to fix that as well.

Hmm. Don't remember here. You might be able to get it at your local BMW dealer.
