New to e70 and BMW - Issues Already

Just purchased a gently used 2013 BMW X5 50i M-sport package for my wife. On the second day, we noticed a rattling coming from the hatch, that is apparently pretty common. On the third day, when she started the vehicle, it shook and ran roughly with a "Decreased Engine Power" alert. Nothing like sending your "new" car right back to the dealer right after you pick it up. She's starting to miss the Sequoia we traded in.

Sorry to heat that. At least it is still covered under warrenty and you can get all the bugs sorted out. My wifes had her 2012 35d for about a month and the TPMS had been flashing a lot. Not sure what that is.

These will not have the reliability of a Toyota not at.all .... they drive better and are more posh so make your choice. I like them for the internet following and.given I can do.diy it can be reasonable to own. I tell people if it isn't under warranty either you better be prepared to pay the stealership a lot or you better be very good at diy.

I agree with Ron...bold move going from a Sequoia to an X5 v8...however, great that it is under warranty...once the bugs get settled, I am sure that you will fall in love with the X

I have a very nice wife I married two years ago, She has a 2008 4 cylinder RAV4 limited. We have been pushing the Rav4 limits towing a 18ft ski boat with it. Well I now am replacing it with a 4.8l 2007 x5 ... she loves the power and sitting high and the posh. But we both know it isn't the RAV4 for reliability. Well the x5 at 105000 hadn't had it's transmission filter-fluid changed and it was leaking badly from the pan gasket ... that was a needed and easy fix. Harder fix will be the oil cooler gasket smaller drip, that according to what I read requires many hours of "undoing" to get to it? I will be researching that carefully, and I need to get my camera probe in there and inspect carefully too. Perhaps I can work out a custom socket setup and not undo so much? FYI also had the AC fan just stop ... turned out the bearings for the fan where bound up .... it wasn't hard to pull it and lubricate it ... if it fails again I replace it. Hopefully I get the X5 reliable and then I just maintain it like a aircraft. If my wife loves it and I am getting DIY credits with HER why not! :-)

Update from the dealer. Injector failure caused one cylinder to misfire. Under the N63 Customer Satisfaction Package, they are replacing ALL of the injectors, fuel pump, air mass sensor, hoses, and spark plugs. Hatch latch too. Fingers crossed....

Did you buy it from a BMW dealer? I am surprised they sold it without doing the 'recall' first....

Yes I did, and it was a vehicle purchased and serviced there. They had started the N63 service and were waiting on parts. I guess there had been no prior incidents they felt comfortable letting it go.
