CIC retrofit question. Is adding $6VA to FA required on E70?

All the instructions for retrofits say to add that code to the FA but when I try, I get an error (datens are new). Every single post I see that mentions $6VA (CIC) is not an E70 so I am thinking I don't need it. I changed the build date, added combox and BMW apps codes to FA and then successfully wrote it all to the CIC. My original FA did not have CCC so my theory makes sense.

As of now everything is working except the backup camera. PDC works fine so I am thinking something is up with the ebay adapter/emulator. I probably will return that and order from the people in Canada. Should have done that from the beginning as I have wasted tons of time on this!

thanks

I didn't add it. It isn't listed when I decode the VIN of the donor vehicle. When you add $609 (Pro Nav) and the #1009 date code, this combination means CIC. I read somewhere that you couldn't make the factory camera work on CIC retrofits that use the emulator.

Thanks for the reply. This confirms that my coding is correct and the emulator is the issue. Once everything is correct, should I see PDC and Camera options in the CIC settings area?

I don't have PDC or camera so I can't answer. I had a strange issue though. I installed the CIC and used it for several weeks before coding. The donor vehicle had PDC, so when i shifted into reverse I got a blank screen with the PDC icon in corner. After coding, when ever I would shift into reverse the CIC would reboot, very annoying. For weeks I thought I had coded wrong. I recoded the CIC for PDC even though my car didn't have the sensors and the rebooting stopped. I considered installing the rear camera, but gave up when I read about the problem w/factory camera and retrofit emulator. I have't searched to see if anyone has a simple fix.

Do you have an emulator now? Most emulators I see have options to enable/disable PDC and or camera. Perhaps yours has PDC on which is confusing things. Most of the time it involves removing a jumper or two.

I do have an emulator. I never opened it so I don't know if it has jumpers or a dip switch. I bought mine as a complete kit on ebay, CIC, emulator, display, idrive conntroller, cables, usb socket and console surround.

Does your emulator look like the one in the link below? That is the one I have that has jumpers. Mine were off by default. I had to solder them on.

The enclosure looks like the same, but mine was part of the quadlock adapter harness, so it was all plug 'n play. After coding, everything works, voice commands, traffic info.

I have the same adapter harness that came with an emulator. Mine had jumpers inside that I had to solder to get PDC working. Some of the versions I have seen on line had jumpers you could pull off. If you cared, you could pop off the cover and see if you had any other jumpers on anything other than the first 2 from the left. 3rd and 4th are PDC enable.

Good suggestion, but I'm not inclined to remove CIC and inspect the emulator when there's nothing to gain. I don't have the PDC sensors so I will never see anything PDC related. Having the CIC screen go blank in reverse isn't even a minor distraction.
