Thumbs up Windshield Washer Tank - New replacement

Been having a problem since delivery with the washer fluid dissappearing. Had it in to the dealer and they replaced the tank. Soon afterwards the headlight washers stopped working. Dropped it off today and service tech said they are replacing the tank with a newly designed one that has a relief opening that's half the size of the original - there's a bulletin out on it. Old design lets fluid slosh out. Also having the software updated for the steering wheel not coming down issue. They're not sure if this is the right software but they're going to give it a try. Kudos to the service dept for experimenting.

you got yourself a good service dept. mine won't even dare try anything like that fearing that BMW won't pay them. all about the money.

The new one has 5mm relief tube rather than 10mm.. In the SIB the symptom they say to look out for is water leaking onto the ground from the front wheel arch.

This was only after the horror of my last visits. Took 3 visits to "fix" the washer tank. First time they couldn't find a problem. Second time they found a crack, changed the tank, forgot to put the pump back on. Third time they put parts on backwards, lost the rubber strips at the back of the engine compartment, and missaligned the fender. I contacted BMWNA on each occurrance and I believe it paid off. They even delivered the X5 when they were done!

Groan... took the car in on Thurs for the windshield washer tank replacement. Promised it would be finished same day. Wasn't ready Thurs afternoon. Got a call today, Friday, 5 PM, they "ordered the wrong tank. the fender is off and the washer system is out, do you mind leaving it until Monday." Like I have a choice?

BMW's next ad should read- Designed with genius, built by perfectionists, serviced by chimps.

Hi Rufusdedog,
I am not sure if I am having the same problem as you had.
After driving from office, I see water dripping from the front wheel arch. But after a while (may be 10 minutes), it stops. I did not turn on the A/C so I am sure it is not condensation.
Do you think I am having the same syndrome? From your experience with the technician, I wonder if I took my car to the dealer and they will make things worse. Since this is a quite new model, I believe no technician is very familiar with it.
What do you think?

Hi Peterjaw,
Could be the same problem. Check the level of fluid in your washer tank. If it drops, and you haven't used the wiper fluid, then you have a leak. They'll replace the tank with a new, redesigned one. Good luck!
