The orange reflectors in the side panel in front of the front wheels. In my photo just above, they have been replaced by "space gray" ones but you can still see where they were.

KEF,

Thanks for this DIY! I'll be picking up my 4.8 soon, and these are going to be the first mods that I do.

I'll probably also make a custom exhaust using the 4.8 tips (I'll get new ones), since I like my cars to be on the loud side. It's nice to see you here, moving from roadfly. How do you like the difference between the two, night and day no? I still have the e46, in fact I added the VFE SC. Now it's even more fun!

Great write-up! But I need some help.

I purchased the clear reflectors (instead of body painted ones) to replace the ambers. The passenger (left) side is easy, but I need help loosening the driver (right) side to gain access.

Is there only 1 8mm screw that I need to remove? This screw isn't the type that can be removed with a philips and is located in the wheel well pictured below?

Where are the other 3 silver phillips head screws that attach the front bumper to its support. Do these need to be removed prior to trying to pull the front bumper aside?

BMW tend to be very held together by plastic mounts. I really don't want to break any of them and have to buy a brand new bumper (this happened to me with my 3 series. Thought it was a easy removal. Ending up breaking a plastic piece on the bumper and had to get a new one).

Any advice/tips in bumper removal to do this job would be greatly appreciated!

I think you were asking about the painted ones. JleviSW and Bimmian are two sources.

[Drivers Side]
I went ahead and tried to remove the screws to access the drivers side. There are 4 of the 8mm ones. This allowed me some (very limited) access where I was able to feel the reflectors from the inside. But still don't see the 3 phillips screws. I think removing those should help access alot. Where are these located?

[Passengers side]
So I tried doing the passenger side first, the double sided tape is strong! I wasn't able to pry it off with a screwdriver. Really afraid of pushing too hard and causing the damage to the bumper or paint. Not sure how I'd get a heat gun in their either. Heat gun from the outside is a "no-no", right? Might strip the paint? Any tips on how to loosen up the reflector from the tape?

Driver's side:
I think they were the 3 Philips screws that you get to under the front bumper. Get to them from the front of the car. You have to be be able to pull the bumper forwards slightly so you can get your hand in.

Passenger's side:
The tape that BMW used is REALLY strong! Mine was slightly easier than KEF's but you pry on them from the inside (VERY gently with a flat head screwdriver) while PUSHING them in from the outside. You probably want two people on this. Obviously be very careful with the prying, you don't want to cause the outside paint to chip. KEF has picture of this in earlier post. There is no way I would use a heat gun on the inside or out.

Thanks for the great guide.

I went ahead did the install. It turned out to be easy. The main trick in removing the original reflectors is to slide the flat head along the two sides where the tape lies (logical).

The clear replacements that I purchased from eBay did not fill as the original ambers. It might have been due to the thick 3M adhesive (I noticed the original adhesive was much thinner). But overall, it was acceptable.

Here are a couple pics (taken immediately after the install in the poorly lit garage):

Merry Xms guys... I have a broken red rear reflector (in the rear bumper) and I would like to change both with painted reflectors. Do you know where can I find these and how to change them? Many thanks
