Question Removing head lights unit x5 2008?

Hi guys,

Does anybody have instruction/ drawing diagrams for removing the head light unit out of an 2008 X5 please. I am trying to do some work on my lights but finding it very difficult to get in to the back of my lights, I am not a contortionist although BMW expect us all to be. I am trying to change some of the bulbs but just cant get my hands in and around the back of the unit to do it so it looks like I will have to take to dam car to pieces.

PS. I have looked at the usual OEM parts listing catalog diagrams but they dont give enough details.

Cheers.
Bozz

G'day mate,

I cant even find the H8 DRL yet and even the H7 is giving me some trouble. I just dont seem to be able to get my hands in properly or to be able to see what to do clearly. I have tried all sorts to get in there including mirrors to try and see what it is that my hands are doing.

I can honestly say that I have worked on and fixed many cars and trucks in my life and I have never seen anything that looks like this abortion just to try and replace a simple bulb for crying out loud.

Hi Quicksilver,
No the bulbs haven't burnt out, I am changing them to the Mtec 4750K white daylight type globes for a better look.

According to attachments H1 is high beam H7 is low beam... Assume you have angel eyes with Halogens.?. I couldn't find anything specific for halogens other than that attached...Let me know if you want the guide to remove headlight but I think that shouldn't be necessary ?

Also found this on another forum...

Hi Mate, I've got a x5 E70 2009 WITH OUT Xenons, if you ask the dealer for an exploded view diagram of the headlamp it shows you the location of the angel eye bulb (the diagram shows both the xenon and the non-xenon on the same diagram). But it doesn't list what type of bulb it is, just a part number. You'll will see a black rectanglier plastic cap in between the main and the dipped beam cover (at the back of the lamp, under the bonnet) held on by 3 or 4small screws. The bulb looks like a 501 sat in a small reflector but not sure, I'll be removing mine when the weather improves. The main beam is a H1, the dipped beam is a H7 and the fogs H11.

Bozz has got the replacement H8 bulbs for the angles eyes but he does not have the Xenon main headlights. I think the H8 bulbs are located differently to the Xenon X5 vehicles.

It sounds like the inner lights (closest to the radiator) are his high beams (H1), in a Xenon equiped X5 that is where the H8 angle eye bulb goes. All my X5's have had Xenon's so I don't know where they are placing the H8 bulb for angle eye's in this type of light assembly and it hard to find diagrams on it.

Bozz, next time you go past your dealer call in, they fit them in 5mins.
