Is there a bypass for this? I've searched the forums and the Internet, but it doesn't seem like much is available for 2010 iDrives.

In fact, I'm finding that many owners are not even aware their vehicles will play DVD movies while their SAV is stopped.

I'm aware that there are bypass modules for most factory devices, but haven't found anything for the 2010 iDrive system, as of yet.

Anyone find anything that works, without splicing wires, or without major modifications?

can be done with coding.

What SW and HW combination is required in order to read or modify these CIC codes? The Audi Vag Com stuff seems readily available but I haven't seen the equivalent for BMW (I'm sure it's available, I've just not seen it... yet...).

To code I believe you need the BMW DIS/TIS system and a GT1 head unit that will connect to the OBD port and the computer. You can find it on eBay, but I belive it is only compatible until 2006 models, not sure what they replaced it with? or was it that, that specific unit I saw on eBay was an older model?

When you figure this out just remember this.......

Starting Today California Law AB 62 will allow people to drive vehicles
with video screens operating in the front seat… so long as the driver can't see them.

By the way, watching a DVD while in park is possible in '09s too. I think it started when ever they switched from the CD changer to the DVD changer.
Because being entertained is far more important than driving safely.

Great thinking......

#1 Watch TV rather than drive safe.
#2 Kill someone with unsafe driving habits.
#3 Get arrested.

Conclusion being entertained by TV in
prison is far more important than driving safely..

Unsafe? Safety is up to the driver. TV doesn't make the car unsafe, only the driver does. If you sit and stare at it instead of the road, you're a moron. Since I'm not a moron, I'd rather have the choice to look at the screen when it's safe to do so. I.e. driving across UT, NV, WY, MT, etc while playing Caddyshack, you don't have to do more than glance at the screen now and then to be reminded what's going on. If anything, it improves safety by keeping you awake on long drives.

Any solutions? Usually euro cars have 'euro tv tuner' options that allow A/V input - I'd think BMW would have something like this, even if it's not for sale in the Nanny States of America...
Any input from anyone on this? I have see interfaces that are installed between the LVDS cable from the controller to the dash screen. The interface has two RCA video inputs that you can display on your dash screen by hitting the <MENU> button by your iDrive knob. I would like to know if anyone has done this. I would like to input the video from a camera on the back of my travel trailer to see who is behind me and for better road awareness when changing lanes. Thanks!
