BMW ConnectedDrive Infotainment Capabilities
I went to the BMW offcial site (BMW Bluetooth-Schnittstelle : Fahrzeugauswahl) and tried to see if an update was available for my X5 50i, but when I entered the last 7 of the VIN, it came back with a message that no update was available. Does anyone know if the multimedia software can be updated to enable the bluetooth audio streaming and album cover display? Thanks. Ace

Are you saying that you can't stream audio through Bluetooth?
I stream music through Bluetooth on my 2011 x5 35d all the time. Regarding album art - not sure mine does. Have to check. I know for sure that it shows album art from iPhone through USB. |

I did some more research from another thread...it appears that late 2010 builds (Oct forward) has the new updated multimedia software and capabilities. My 2011 X5 build was a custom order in Aug 2010.

BT Audio streaming for the X5 was introduced in October 2010.
You can retrofit the unit (if you wish). But you would loose BMW Assist capability. If you want a 3rd party solution ... buy a $40 blackberry audio gateway from amazon and plug it into your Aux port. It will give you BT audio streaming .. although no control. Display of album art was again introduced in October 2010 (for the x5), and is only available for external audio sources (iphone, usb stick), if the device is physically connected via USB. This is not supported over BT. Finally, because the OP cars was manufactured in August 2010, it does not support software updates that can be carried out by the customer. So you will never see a update posted for your car. Sorry. |
