This may not apply to your specific car, but on my 2012 I had to get an adapter that clicks into the middle elbow rest storage compartment to play music via iPhone so hard wire connection vs. bluetooth. It was roughly $200 or $300, can't recall exactly. I do remember that it was important whether or not the car had media package from the factory (4NR?) to make everything work... Hope this will at least help you figure out the answer that applies to your car.

I have a 2011 E70 with the upgraded audio and streaming music through bluetooth is not available. I just imported my music collection through USB to the hard drive, it works much better anyway.

I'm using a small and inexpensive device made by Blackberry that receives the bluetooth music from my android phone and then transfers it to the the car via the auxiliary plug under the armrest. BTW, my '11 335i does support direct streaming of music from my phone via bluetooth.

Humm....
I have an early build 2011 X5 (built in 07/2010) which was before BMW Apps etc... were available etc... and I can stream music from my iPhone 4S. I can also plug it into the black cord in the arm rest and play it through there as well, and I've also created a CD and loaded onto the Hard Drive as well. I don't think there is anything special about mine that's allowing it to stream BT music.

I have an early build 2011 X5 as well, and cannot stream BT music from Android. My wife has an iPhone 4S, I will try with hers. Does BT Audio just show up in the CD Menu? |

Xtony, I'm curious with that blackberry adapter, is it battery powered? It doesn't really say in the listing you have there. Plugging it in wouldn't be that difficult I guess, but if it somehow didn't need to be plugged in at all, that would be even better!

As for when they added BT audio, I don't know exactly, but my 335i is a 5/11 production and it does support streaming BT audio. I know my 6/08 production X5 does not support BT audio.

My 2011 x5m streams music through Bluetooth fine. It will show under the cd menu. Make sure that you go into the blue tooth setting for the phone and confirm blue tooth audio is checked. Anytime you plug the device into the USB port it automatically resets it to where blue tooth audio doesn't work.
