bluetooth issue

I know there are multiple posts about this issue but I am unable to find the issue that I have. My 08 X5 bluetooth connection is acting up. Sometimes I see the antenna symbols on my monitor and sometimes I don't see it. I even tried to deselect bluetooth activate in iDrive menu but can't do it. No respond from iDrive menu. I already deleted bluetooth pairing in my iPhone 5s and now it does not pick up the car device. I tried the same phone on my 06 530i and it worked fine.
Any suggestion or ideas? Is my TCU giving up?

suggestion would be to try a different phone too and you'll know if it's your car or the phone.

Thanks for the suggestion.
BTW, my car is identical to yours except the tinted backlight. I like the combo.

Tried another phone with the same car and the problem still exists. Sometime Bluetooth works and sometimes it does not. Have to restart the car.
I wonder did anyone change the TCU in their cars? If you do, does it fix the problem. Thanks

I've had a similar issue and have had all the hardware in the system replaced under warranty mult times. They can't figure it out. I have 2013 X5d

Update your phone, then reboot.

my phone (iPhone 5) has been updated and my wife upgraded from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5S just recently. The software in the truck has been updated by the dealer, the hardware has been replaced. I think there is a short in the wiring, but they have not wanted to start changing wiring harnesses yet.

I have a similar problem, and the dealer says "normal operation" which I think means no codes (and clearly means no help from them).

My iPhone 5 will drop the bluetooth connection to the X5 about a minute after I start the car and it has paired. I often make a call right as I'm leaving the parking lot, and invariable it drops from BT (but stays connected to the phone so if handy I can continue the call that way). Then BT re-connects and I can call again. In other words, it appears to be a blink in the BT connection.

I have updated everything I can, and I have unpaired and re-paired, and done everything else short of throwing my phone out the window or trading in my X5. Amazing that such a little piece of technology could be so frustrating!

2013 X5 5.0 with Nav if it matters.

I did some more searching on the Apple forums and found out that the problem with dropping calls seems to be related to loading the address book and other information from the phone to the car. A solution that has been suggested is, on iPhone only I guess, to go to bluetooth, click on the info button for the car connection, and then uncheck either "Phone Favorites", "Phone Recents" and/or "All Contacts". Since I like having my contacts available through iDrive, I unchecked only the first two (so I can't see favorites or recent calls on my iDrive screen). People with a very large number of contacts may need to uncheck "All Contacts" which means you have to dial from the phone or know the number to use iDrive.

It isn't clear whether this is an iPhone problem or BMW problem, but there is something in the handshake and data transfer at startup and perhaps other times that causes this. We'll see if an update to either software helps...
