New Owner here - 2012 x35D
I've done tons of reading here... lots of great info! The first few mods I'm looking at are tint-matching the front windows, a trailer hitch, the JBD module, and adding running board. A few questions: Is the OEM hitch the way to go? Is it integrated will with the LCI bumper? Can the aluminum running boards be added easily? I've seen a few people getting rid of them, but no threads about retrofit. Why don't people like them? Lastly, I've read that the Urea system lasts about 9k miles. Is that true? |

The OEM hitch is a ripoff, execuhitch (check name) is the way to go, it's hidden and you don't cut the bumper.
Running boards are easy to add. You add urea when you get an oil change, if it needs to be refilled before that, the car will you tell you. It's rated to 27HWY, but don't get your hopes up

Great, I'll check out Execuhitch! Not sure what happened to the pic...

Nice diesel find!
RB's look nice, to some/many, but they are difficult to traverse exiting and tend to leave dirt marks on most legs, esp in winter. Nice car, though. GL, mD

I just purchased a 2012 X5 35d as well (not as nice a color as yours). I have the same plans as you and I found the running boards on eBay for $245. I also found the OEM hitch kit, which comes with a bumper trim, but was also wondering how it integrates with the factory bumper (or if it's for the 2007-2010 bumper). That Execuhitch looks pretty nice, but is pricey, and I already have several class III receiver accessories that won't work with the Execuhitch

If you use the X5 for work, you might be better off to keep the rocker covers instead of the running boards. They stick out a little too far and they will catch your pant legs all the time. I swapped my running boards for rocker covers and I have never been happier.

Nice find! I'm loving this diesel motor. In looking around Execuhitch's website I believe the solution to the bike rack problem is this Bike-Rack Connectors :: 2 inch Bike-Rack Connector - Execuhitch - Manufacturer and Retailer of Hidden Tow Hitches for BMW, Mercedes, Subaru
