Another M-Steering wheel retrofit

Once I got all my parts ready I couldn't wait no more, this mod doesn't require nice weather especially if you have a garage.

The job took me around 2 hours (most of the time I spend replacing the Air bag cover)

Parts if you planning to do the same:

$584.55 - 32306795204 - M Steering wheel (brand new from the dealer)
$103.58 - 32307839474 - M Steering wheel cover (brand new from the dealer)
$198.13 - 61319239903 - Multifunctional switch (controls) (brand new from the dealer)
$2.43 - 32306769431 - 3 Saucer-head screws . M4X14MM (brand new from the dealer)
$1.62 - 32306767225 - 2 Saucer-head screws . M4X14MM (brand new from the dealer)
$36.00 - Sport Air bag cover (used mint condition) from eBay

You probably don't need multifunctional switch and screws if you just upgrading from regular sport wheel, I upgraded from the older one.

I used following DIYs:
For Steering Wheel swap:
Msport Steering Wheel DIY
For Air Bag Cover swap:

What year x5 do you have? I'd love to do this on my 07 (sport model). I'm guessing it does not have paddle shifters (which I know will not work on mine and I'm fine with that)

I just want that thicker nicer leather!

I have 2011 E70 LCI, I'm not sure if this particular wheel will work on 07. I didn't add paddle shifters as they probably wouldn't work on my model, I have premium not a sport.
The wheel feels much better than stock!

Gotcha, wondering if a 2010 x5m steering wheel would work as well. Mine is thicker than your steering wheel but not as thick as an x5m wheel and the leather just looks nicer!

Thanks, it's not that complicated really, just following DIY, I've done crazier things in the past

Great job!

So I am in the process of doing the same. I have the standard steering wheel and I have looked everywhere on how to remove the airbag and can't figure it out.

I have the sport steering wheel and sport airbag so I believe it will be PNP. Any direction will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

If you follow directions in DIY, I posted in my original post it's pretty clear how to do it but you basically need flat head screwdriver to push springs holding the air bag in place and than it will pop out. To get to the springs you need to find (feel it with you fingers) small holes on both sides of the steering wheel behind, typically the'll be covered, just push the screwdriver in and feel the spring tension, keep pushing and it will pop out. Don't forget to disconnect the battery before this step, also don't close the trunk or u won't be able to get back to reconnect the battery
Since you have sport wheel already this should be really easy for you, no airbag cover replacement, just swap the wheel, reconnect wires and push u airbag back in place.
Good luck!

Since I have the sport wheel already, same multi function buttons, same shaped airbag etc. What parts exactly do I have to purchase? Only the wheel?

Sounds like u only need steering wheel, the rest should be the same. Not sure if you want to get Steering wheel cover (you probably have silver one) but that's up to you.
