New Battery every 2 oil changes

Just had my 2014 X5 3.5 serviced and they replaced the main battery. Dealer said it was normal maintenance and would be replaced every 2nd oil change. Car only has 14k miles on it and no battery issues. This sounds absurd to me. I guess I wont keep car once its off warranty. Anyone else have this issue?

Hey, at least you got a new batt and they 'registered' it for you.
BMW has lost their minds/focus, imo...

And they made you pay for the battery?
Interesting article. Could workaround the problem by using an AGM battery and a trickle charger that plugs into the trunk plug, over night, once in a while, after out of warranty.Like a Ctek 7002 charger. No?
I still can't believe they did this to F15...

Yes, the trickle charger should help.

Charging not only for this, but also for ALOT of applications IMO.
I've been putting the cars on a charger just to keep the batteries to the brim.
It keeps the batteries in a full state - absorbed as much as it can.
If ~mitigates~ shallow cycle battery

Fast forward. AFAIK, the new M4 uses Lithium Batteries.
I can only imagine what the replacement cost on that battery is once out of warranty....

The answer is a lot. A new lithium battery from a random dealer is about 1k.

Lithium-ion starter battery. 69AH made by BMW. #61217854563

Dafuq is BMW thinking? No one will want any of these cars when they are older, unlike their previous cars.

Should not presume....but I would think when you go to reregister....it will have a option of wet or AGM battery profiles....

As lithium batteries were out of reach a few years ago, after a few years they will be affordable if not cheap.

It's not a big deal relax. This is still the best SUV available. I switched to Mercedes a few years ago and came back to BMW

Maybe so, but out of warranty repairs are ridiculously expensive, and this makes it worse.

Are you sure that as your main battery? I just had my wife's X5 d in for the second oil change at 20k miles and the dealer told me there's a secondary battery that gets replaced at the second oil change. I asked her what it was for and she didn't really know. She said it's a smaller battery. I asked if its a regular thing to have to change it out every 20k and as I asked, a mechanic happened to be walking past. She stopped him and asked. He said its only needed to replace it once. I don't know much about it but that's what I was told today.
