L: Congrats. Sounds like you're having a ball. I hope you'll get use to all the
differences and start having some fun.

I understand the idiot magnet thing. 2 weeks after I got mine there i am
sitting at a red light along side another SUV on my drivers side and
someone runs a red light hit's the SUV and the rest is history.

Barry, Chris and mD -

I'm getting used to it. The ride, not the idiots.

I still have to take some pictures, been crazy busy at work.

Any update? Hey, are your interior lights LED or still the regular bulbs?

BTW, I hope you saw my response to your winter wheel question, you could order hub-centric rings to make the rears fit.

Hi Chris,

Yes, I did see your post on the winter wheels. Sorry, been a zoo at work the past week.

I honestly don't know about the interior lights. I'll have to check. There is some pretty cool lighting under the trim on the dash, on the door and in the footwells. You can change the color.

I'm still trying to love my new ride but it's not happening. I actually had a dream I got the ///M back from the dealer but they removed the ///M steering wheel and put something funky in it's place.

I'm actually considering going to the MB dealer and checking out the AMG 63 GLE coupe - *gasp*

When it was first announced, it was only offered with the 6 cylinder. Had I known about the AMG, I may have waited....Who am I kidding? I would have never considered switching teams prior to taking delivery.

Why don't you find a low mileage 50i or get your M back?

I don't want to be emotional and knee jerk. I am two weeks into a 36 month lease. I keep hoping I'm going to wake up one day and love it. But so far other than the power, I can't find anything I love. Everything annoys me. The position of the paddle shifters is different. Previously I could reach them easily with my finger tips while my hands were on the steering wheel. Now I have to really reach and stretch to get them.

I don't feel as solid tearing up ramps, handling is not the same.

The air conditioning vents are much smaller, the crash avoidance and lane departure warnings make me crazy so I will probably shut off.

Bottom line is it's my fault. I ordered without test driving.

I would say you just need some fine-tuning. Things like disable the SOUND on the lane warning and keep the visual etc.

For the paddle shift: if the handles come off can they be swapped with previous model to get the reach? If not there are some decent options to help. I'd have to see them in person to know the best solution but I "do that for a living" (modify something to be perfect that just is not quite right). I think If you remove the few major annoyances the rest will be very minor and will become the new norm that will make you nuts when the NEXT one is different.

You for example can add some length to the paddles in not just a clean way but custom to just you with heat mold able plastics like used for helping arthritic people hold a tooth brush. Get in black so it "disappears" into the void. If the paddles are metal/chrome but are smooth on the back a very clean solution can be done with an extension (suggest making from a replacement paddle or last model you like) and design a clamp that will pinch it onto the other one very clean: you'd see a bump forward or backward depending if you'd like closer or farther.

For "proof of concept" wrap some rubber bands TIGHT around the paddle and push a building shim in to just the right length. Once you find a spot you like fabricate a clean extension and attach. If help you engineer if you want.

L,

Maybe toss it to your Employee of the Month to drive, and go test drive/get another X of some kind?

I realize it isn't my dough; just a thought...or swap lease, (I have little clue how that works).

I had 'company cars' from '71 to 2000, when I carried the bag: new one of some standard brand/medium options/loaded options in later years, and there were some really 'good cars' in that mix, and some I could not wait to ditch, leaving keys in parked car in metro NYC whenever I could.

Dunno, life is short to drive a car for 35+ more months, that you simply don't like/cannot get used to.

I realize it is a biz situ, but I wish you Good Luck.

Andrew, I wish it was just the sound. It has more to do with the way I drive and when the warnings kick in. If I want to change lanes and I see the hole, I put my blinker on as I am approaching it. Chances are there is a car next to me. I know he's there but blinker + car next to you he crash avoidance and the steering wheel vibrates like crazy. I guess I need to stop using a signal

The rear view and front cameras come on if someone comes up too close behind me. I need to figure that one out. Design wise it makes no sense. Maybe it's a setting.

I could live with the paddle shifters. I know I have really been ragging on the new ride but it boggles my brain. I get the fact that things change, but the changes should be an improvement, whether that means more comfortable, easier to operate, greater visibility etc. So the positioning of the paddle shifters making them harder to reach or the smaller mirrors that greatly reduce the visibility make no sense to me.

mD -

I'm not throwing in the towel yet. I thought about swap lease and can go that route if I really get disgusted. Although why would someone want to pick up 35 months when they can get exactly what they want from a dealer?
It's not like they can pick up a year instead of a full term.

Putting all else aside, my biggest issues are the seats and the side view mirrors. I will keep driving it and stop my whining. Time will tell.

Thanks all and sorry for the rants. I am a happy person
